Camp Reunion!

25 MORE DAYS! Yup, that’s right, we’re counting down the days and we have only 3 ½ more weeks until our much anticipated Island Lake 2013 Camp Reunion takes place! We are so excited to see many of our happy campers, along with local staff members. We can’t wait for screams of excitement when friends embrace one another, first time seeing each other since saying goodbye at camp this past summer.

All of our Island Lakers, current and past, are welcome to join us on November 23rd at Sportime USA in Elmsford, NY. Our reunion will take place from 10am- 1pm so don’t be late! Campers will be given game cards to enjoy all that this indoor amusement center has to offer: arcade games, laser tag, indoor bowling, rides, and more.

Come and be a part of the fun at Sportime USA in a few weeks. We’ll take tons of photos and post them on our website so if you can’t make it, you can feel as if you were a part of the ILC reunion experience.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in 25 more days! ILC U THERE!!!

New Bunks!!!

We are excited to announce that we are rebuilding Boys & Girls Bunks 21 & 22 for summer 2014! If we receive our permits in time then we will also rebuild Bunks 19 & 20 by next summer, as well. For those of you who checked out Boys & Girls Bunks 23 & 24 this past summer then you know how amazing these new bunks will be. If you never saw the new bunks then you’re in for a great surprise next summer!

The bunks will be 30’ x 74’ each and have wooden beds (single beds and bunk beds). The walls are pine wood, creating a warmer, brighter atmosphere in the cabins. Each will also have its own exhaust fan to circulate the air and keep the bunks cooler on those hot summer days.

Our new bunks will have spacious dressing rooms with tons of cubbies and hanging space, as well as laundry bins to help make your weekly laundry day that much more convenient. The dressing rooms have nice tile floors and the bathrooms have ceramic tile floors. Each building, housing 2 bunks, will have 6 showers and 8 toilets, which is more than our other bunks currently have.

Let’s just say that we’ve overheard campers say that these new bunks are nicer than hotels they’ve visited and our counselors say they are nicer than their dorms! Lol, we don’t know what kind of hotels they’ve stayed in but hey, we were happy to hear that. So keep the summer 2014 countdown going and we look forward to seeing many of you on November 23rd at our camp reunion at Sportime USA in Elmsford, NY. Until then, ILC U THERE!

October Parent News

Hey ILC Parents… With fall upon us, we hope your children are still sharing tons of wonderful ILC memories with you. Our summer 2014 countdown has already kicked into gear and next summer will sneak up on us before we know it. In the meantime, you and your children can continue to view our daily summer photos, weekly videos, & Facebook videos for several months to come.

We are excited to announce that we now have a wonderful Island Lake App for your iPhones and iPads. Sorry but the app has been developed for Apple products only, not for Droids and BlackBerrys. We hope all of our campers, parents, and staff have already downloaded our app and have taken advantage of all of the amazing features it entails. You can check out this past summer’s photos, videos, read our monthly newsletters, and even log onto your CampMinder account, which will come in handy next summer while your children are with us at camp. The home screen of our app even has a countdown of the number of days until summer 2014 begins. Definitely take advantage of our new app if you haven’t already checked it out. We’re really proud of it!

By now, all our 2013 camp families should have received their very own copy of our Island Lake Video Yearbook on dvd. We hope you and your children enjoy watching this amazing video filled with so many fond memories of this summer past. For over an hour you can forget about all that’s going on around you, sit back, relax, and enjoy being taken back to summer so you can truly feel a part of the ILC experience.

We are all getting pumped up for our camp reunion on Saturday, November 23rd at Sportime USA in Elmsford, NY. The reunion will be held from 10am until 1pm and details are located in our monthly newsletters. We look forward to seeing many of our summer 2013 campers and staff there, no RSVP necessary.

We are happy to announce that camp is filling up very quickly for next summer. Be sure to take advantage of our pre-November 1st rates and register your children right away if you have not already done so. You can sign your child up with one of the registration forms we mailed home with your newsletters or you can download our form here on our website under “Island Lake Families” and then “Forms & Mailings” to your left.

Well, that’s about it for now. We’d like to once again thank all of our Island Lake families for making summer 2013 so special. We look forward to our camp reunion on November 23rd. Until then, ILC U THERE!

September Parent News

Hey ILC Parents… It was with great sadness that we bid farewell to our ILC family on August 12th. We truly enjoyed spending an AMAZING summer with all of our campers and staff. Was summer2013 the best because of our incredibly awesome counselors? Was it because we had the greatest group leaders, department heads, and head counselor ever? Was it because the food has never been better? Could it be because of the fun theme days and evening activities such as Counselor Switch Day and Revival Night? Or was it because we had the coolest, happiest, most amazing campers ever? We are sure it was a combination of all of these things that made this summer so special. One thing we can tell you with all sincerity is that this was one of our BEST ILC SUMMERS YET!!!

We’d like to thank you for your wonderful phone calls, letters, and emails regarding this past summer. These generous gestures mean a great deal to us. Now go get a pen and paper to save the date for our annual camp reunion, which will be held on Saturday, November 23rd in Elmsford, NY. Details are in our September newsletter and we hope our campers can all make it!

Registration for Summer 2014 has exceeded last years’ enrollment at this point in time. We’re thrilled to know that we had so many happy campers with us this year. Remember, camp fills early! If you have not yet registered, please do so immediately so you can take advantage of our Pre-November 1st rates and avoid being closed out later on. We don’t like turning campers away so please don’t hold off too long.

Cancellations can be made through January 1st and we will refund all of your money less the $100 enrollment fee. You will save more than $100 if you re-enroll now, so financially it makes sense to hold a spot and be guaranteed another summer of fun. Remember, there is a rate increase on November 1st.

Well, those three torturous words, “back to school,” have already become a reality for some of our campers and the remainder will be stuck behind a school desk shortly, daydreaming about their Island Lake experience. We wish you all a wonderful and healthy school year . Now your campers can start their countdown until next summer when I-L-C U in Starrucca, PA once again!

End of Summer 2013

Summer 2013 at Island Lake is now officially over. It was a FANTASTIC summer and we just want to thank all of our campers and counselors for making it so special. What was your favorite part about ILC this summer? Was it Color War? Evening Activities? Special Events? The teen trip? Do tell us! We’d love to receive feedback from our campers and staff.

We had an amazing 3rd session, including an awesome 4 day teen trip to Cleveland. With Counselor Switch Day, Battle of the Sexes, and our final day Color Run and banquet, this last session was extremely special for everyone involved.

Now our campers must once again adjust to being at home and will soon be getting ready to go back to school, the 3 dreaded words in the English dictionary (“Back to school!”). For all of us in the winter office, the work never ends as we start all over again planning for summer 2014. We will provide details about our November reunion in our upcoming monthly newsletters.

Thank you to all who made this summer at Island Lake truly the best one yet! Until we see many of you at the camp reunion, ILC U THERE!!!

August 2013 Session 3

Hey ILC Parents…Summer is flying by so fast that we can’t believe it’s already 3rd session! Although sad to say goodbye to so many amazing campers at the end of our 2nd session, it’s always wonderful to greet fresh faces as they step off of the bus for our final 2 week session.

Session 2 Highlights
1. Out of camp trips to Cooperstown, Lackawanna Coal Mine, canoeing and kayaking down the Delaware River, and camping out overnight in the barn and in the woods.
2. Lazy Day trips to Skate Estate and to see the movie, Monsters University. At Skate Estate they can rollerblade, rollerskate, go down waterslides, play miniature golf, laser tag, or old school arcade games.
3. Visiting Day- We hope all of our session 2 parents and grandparents had a wonderful day here at camp with your children.
4. Color War! It was a race from start to finish, City (blue) vs. Country (grey). Once again, grey pulled through in the end with the win. Check out our summer photos and weekly videos to feel a part of the action.
5. Performance Week- It was another great week of shows here at Island Lake. With our circus show, dance show, rock concert, magic show, and musicals, our campers all shined under the spotlight. You can order these performances on DVD after the summer.

We are now looking forward to a fantastic 3rd session with lots of new campers and our annual teen trip coming up. This summer we are going to Cleveland, Ohio and some of the trip highlights include the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Football Hall of Fame, Cedar Point Amusement Park, and dinner cruise. Our older campers and CIT’s are getting so excited for this 4 day, 3 night trip on August 5th.

Well, that’s about it for now. Enjoy our daily photos and weekly videos on CampMinder, as well as our daily tweets and daily videos on our Facebook page. You are sure to feel as if you are a part of the fun we’re having here at Island Lake! ILC U THERE!!!

A Note From A Camper

So last night I’m hanging out at the canteen with the kids and an 11 year old girl hands me a piece of paper. Notes like this remind me of why we do what we do and why we love it so much! This is what it said:

– Unbelievable Summers

This is a list of what camp gives me. I really love camp. Thank you very much. I’m excited for next year.

Grace

July 2013 Mid-Session 2

Hey ILC Parents… Summer at Island Lake has been fantastic thus far. We couldn’t ask for happier campers, running around and having a blast making friends while enjoying their activities. It was sad to say goodbye to our session 1 campers who went home last week but they left camp with wonderful memories and fabulous new skills.

Session 1 highlights:
1. Tribals was a blast! Four teams played hard for two days with the Green Team taking the victorious win. Check out our daily photos and weekly videos on CampMinder, as well as our daily videos on Facebook to see all of the fun in action.
2. 4th of July rocked here at ILC! Everyone dressed up in their favorite red, white, and blue attire and enjoyed a fun-filled lazy day followed by a cookout and an amazing fireworks display. Our neighbors around our lake can attest that we have the best firework show around!
3. Sports! Congrats to many of our campers who played very well in a variety of intercamp games this past session. We won and we placed in quite a few tournaments, including tennis and volleyball.
4. Performance Week at ILC was a success, as well. Everyone worked very hard on these shows and they were enjoyed by all. Campers also put on a fantastic circus show, dance show, rock concert, and magic show. Parents will have an opportunity to purchase copies of these performances on DVD after the summer.

Currently, we couldn’t ask for a better 2nd session. Although it’s been extremely warm, the rain is finally staying away and our campers are taking full advantage of all of the activities we offer. We now look forward to Visiting Day on July 20th and Color War on…just kidding! Can’t tell you when it will break. All we can tell you is to stay tuned and check out our daily tweets, Facebook videos, and CampMinder photos for a glimpse of what’s to come here at ILC.

Enjoy and as always, ILC U THERE!

July 2013 Mid-Session 1

Hey ILC Parents… Summer 2013 is now in full swing and the kids are having a blast! We’re always excited to see so many “happy campers” step off of the bus, both new and returning to ILC. Watching friends run to embrace one another and greet the new campers is always amazing. You can witness it all by viewing our daily summer photos and weekly videos via CampMinder, as well as our video blogs on our Facebook page.

Many of your children have already accomplished more than you could ever anticipate: passing their deep water test, improving a tennis swing, getting a part in the shows, successfully walking the tight wire in circus, mounting a horse, making friendship bracelets for everyone in the bunk, strumming a guitar for the very first time,…the list can go on and on.

As a reminder, session 1 ends on Thursday, July 11th. All campers leaving after session 1 will return to their designated bus stops at approximately 12 o’clock noon (give or take ½ hour). We will then board the buses with our session 2 campers and depart from each location at 1pm sharp. If your child will be coming up to camp on July 12th, please be sure to arrive at the bus stop by 12:30 to ensure an on time departure.

We have some amazing activities and events in the works, including our traditional 4th of July spectacular firework show and tribals. Enjoy our daily summer photos, weekly videos, and Facebook videos. Guaranteed, you will feel as if you are a part of the ILC experience!

Summer in Full Swing!

Day 4 at Island Lake and camp is now in full swing! It’s our third day of activities and everyone is getting settled into the majors/minors routine. The weather has been warm and sunny, except for a couple of quick rain showers after lunch today and a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon.

Excitement filled the air when the buses rolled into camp on Saturday afternoon. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces come off of those buses. Campers new to ILC started developing friendships almost immediately with other new and returning campers. Our staff has been fantastic thus far, helping their campers settle in immediately.

Summer kicked off with a new tradition- an “Opening Ceremony” down at the waterfront on the first evening. There we introduced our key staff and gave out 5- and 10- year jackets (and boy were there a lot!). We then had our usual make-your-own-sundae (aka “make-your-own-mess”) at canteen that night.

The following day was our 4-minor day where campers took deep water tests, tried out for the musicals, and were tested for levels in a variety of activities such as dance, music, horseback riding, and tennis. It was an opportunity for them to see what activities they wanted to sign up for as their majors, too. In the afternoon we had a big slip-and-slide party and opened the pool for a free swim before everyone signed up for their majors.

Yesterday was our first day of our regular schedule of majors and minors and the kids are now settling into their activities. Energy is high and there’s a great deal of spirit here at camp. We are confident that the weeks ahead will be the most exciting ones ever for our campers. Enjoy our daily photos and weekly videos on CampMinder, as well as our daily tweets and videos on our Facebook page. Until next time, ILC U THERE!
