The first week of pre-camp will be in the books tomorrow and it’s been a great week! The weather swung from a high of 55 on Tuesday to a high of 85 on Wednesday and has been perfect ever since. Camp looks great and most of the equipment is set up and ready to go. The grass is getting mowed, the buildings are getting cleaned and painted and ILC will look great for next weekend’s Open House. We are looking forward to seeing many of our new campers on June 8th for a day of orientation, tours, lunch, and activities!

We’re At Camp!
Pre-camp started yesterday and we got a lot done! The inflatables for the lake are out, lots of equipment has been moved, bunks are being cleaned and painted, and the grass is getting mowed. We’ve got a great crew here, mostly returning staff. The rookies are holding their own however and are already a big part of the effort. We have less than two weeks until the Open House when we get to meet and great many of our new campers. We’ll have Island Lake looking perfect for their arrival and we can’t wait to see them! The weather hasn’t been too cooperative with some cooler temperatures but that won’t slow us down!
It’s Almost Here!
Here it is one week prior to the opening of the summer office and the beginning of pre-camp! We are all arriving in camp next weekend along with the rest of the pre-camp staff. We are all chomping at the bit to get there! The weather is finally getting warmer up there, the trees all have their leaves back, and the lakes have melted. We know you all live ten months for the two that are approaching and so do we. We know how excited you are, that you dream about camp, and that you think about it all the time. We know that some of you have already begun to pack. Memorial Day weekend is approaching and it is the unofficial start of summer. For us it is the official start as that is when we start getting Island Lake ready for all of our campers. We look forward to seeing all of you there soon. It’s time to be at camp!
From an Island Lake Parent…
Aaron was admitted to The College of William and Mary. He was very excited about W&M and posted it on his Facebook page. Another Island Laker that he knew years ago but has not communicated with in ages saw his post and wrote him all excited. We went down to campus for Accepted Students Day. He ended up staying with her in her dorm. This really was great for him to get the inside scoop on the school. He met a bunch of people and saw the school from the inside. It was a completely great experience for him.
This is just a long-winded way of saying Thank You for Island Lake. Aaron had a ball there and still has many fond memories of his summers there. I know that Island Lake was his “Home”, and the place where we live was what he had to put up with until he could go home again. What happens at Island Lake does not stay at Island Lake. Friendships made there continue to positively impact his life.
May Parent News
Hey ILC Parents…Wow, how did May sneak up on us so quickly? With spring in the air, excitement is building and summer 2013 right around the corner! Yay! As of May 27th, all correspondence should go directly to our summer address at camp.
If your child is enrolled for summer 2013 at Island Lake, please be sure to fill out your profile and transportation forms, either by filling out the hard copies you received in your folder or fill out the forms right here on our website. If you choose to fill them out online, just click the “My CampMinder” link or “NEW: MY CAMPMINDER log in”. You will be prompted to enter your email address and then click on “Retrieve password.” We recommend you change the password to one you will remember. If your children are returning campers, we suggest you use the same password that you used last summer or the same one you use to access our summer photos and send emails to your children. The medical form is not on our website so please be sure to fill out the form enclosed in your folder and mail it back to us.
By now you should have received your “Spring Mailing” in the postal mail. Enclosed in this mailing is your Parent Handbook, Camper Handbook, Activities Handbook, Medication Policy letter, travel itinerary form, Open House flyer (if your child is a 1st time camper this summer), as well as a flyer about our online photos, videos, & emails. Whether you are returning or are new to the Island Lake family, please make sure you and your child(ren) take a few minutes to sit down and read this spring mailing thoroughly, as we always add new information to these manuals and letters.
Are you a returning parent who has not yet signed up your child(ren) for this upcoming summer at Island Lake? If so, please, please, please do not put it off any longer. Some of our bunks are now completely full. We truly do not want to turn away any of our devoted campers and it’s very difficult for us when forced to do so each and every year. Please don’t let that happen to your child. It only takes a few minutes to fill out the registration form and send it in to our NY office with a deposit. If you don’t have one handy, click “Forms & Mailings” to the left of this page and print the “2013 Enrollment Form”.
As a reminder to all of our summer 2013 families, don’t forget to read our monthly newsletters. The newsletters provide a great deal of important information for your child’s upcoming summer. Our newsletter link is located on our homepage. All summer 2013 families will also receive their very own hard copy of our monthly newsletter at the start of each month.
Well, that’s about it for now. Enjoy your navigation through our site checking out all of our fun-filled activities and smiling faces. Our camp offers a program that furthers your child’s growth, independence, and sense of decision-making while simultaneously giving them the responsibility to create their own exciting summer.
